Whitby outlasts Newmarket, 4-3

The game between the Whitby Fury and the Newmarket Hurricanes was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Whitby emerged with a 4-3 win.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Nick Neal secured the win for the Fury with a goal in the third period.

Whitby was sparked by Neal, who registered one goal. Neal scored 18:54 into the third period to make the score 4-3 Whitby. Shaquille Hickey picked up the assist.

The Fury put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Newmarket to score on any of its three power plays.

Jack Lewis also scored for Whitby. In addition, Whitby received assists from Sean Deroch, Matt Eddy, Sam Gray, Mike Panowyk, Matt Davis, Tyler Feaver, and Ryan Logan, who each chipped in one.

The Hurricanes' offense rang up 33 shots on Whitby's net.

Newmarket was helped by Justin Maiolino, who tallied one goal. Maiolino scored 18:29 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Newmarket. Daniel Leavens assisted on the tally. Newmarket also got points from David Savery, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Newmarket also got a goal from Brycin Morrison as well. Other players who recorded assists for Newmarket were Matt LeMasurier, who had two and Brandon Francisco and Ryan Johnson, who contributed one a piece.

Feaver rejected 30 shots on goal for the Fury. Whitby totaled 35 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 0-for-1 on the power play. The Fury ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Steven Deeg was ejected from the game. Lucas Peressini recorded 26 saves for the Hurricanes. Newmarket ended with 39 minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major. For the Hurricanes, Savery was ejected from the game.
