Oakville wins tough contest against Milton, 3-2

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Oakville Blades escaped with a 3-2 victory over the Milton Icehawks.

Oakville gained the winning advantage on a goal by Matt Alvaro 3:00 into the second period and hung on until final buzzer.

Alvaro had two goals to lead the Blades to victory.

Milton's power play was ineffective against Oakville's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

The Icehawks were unable to stop the Blades from sending pucks towards the net, and Oakville eventually piled up 40 shots on goal.

Nathan Renouf also scored for Oakville. In addition, Oakville received assists from Jonah Renouf, Sean Perichak, Greg Campbell, Stefan Leblanc, Rory Bell, and Spencer Green, who contributed one a piece.

Milton kept the Blades' goalie busy throughout the game, and Evan Buitenhuis made 29 saves on 31 shots.

The Icehawks were helped by Jeremy Laing, who registered one goal. Laing scored 15:07 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Oakville. Milton also got a goal from Jonathon Buttitta as well. Other players who recorded assists for Milton were Shane Bennett and Daniel Holt, who each chipped in one.

Oakville incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Daniel Plater made 37 saves for Milton on 40 shots. The Icehawks incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
