Newmarket downs Trenton in overtime, 3-2 (OT)Ray Twinney Rink 1 Thu, Feb 07, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
Brandon Francisco gave the Newmarket Hurricanes a 3-2 (OT) victory over the Trenton Golden Hawks when he scored 49 seconds into the extra period. Newmarket got the win thanks to a great game by Daniel Leavens, who had two goals and one assist. Leavens scored the first of his two goals at 4:27 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Newmarket. Leavens' next tally made the score 2-0 Newmarket with 10:25 left in the first period. Alex Bontje assisted on the tally. The Hurricanes forced Golden Hawks' netminders to work without much rest, finishing with 34 shots and forcing 31 saves. Andrew Winsor made 26 stops and Victor Adamo made five. Newmarket put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Trenton to score on any of its three power plays. In addition, Newmarket received assists from Lucas Peressini, who had one. The Golden Hawks were helped by Shawn Hulshof, who had one goal. Hulshof scored 9:59 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Newmarket. Greg Trichilo picked up the assist. Mike Nedoszytko also scored for Trenton. Other players who recorded assists for Trenton were Loren Ulett, Ori Abramson, and Nick Marinac, who contributed one a piece. Peressini rejected 28 shots on goal for the Hurricanes. Newmarket incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Trenton incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
