Whitby uses shootout to best Cobourg, 4-3 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Whitby Fury defeated the Cobourg Cougars in a shootout 4-3 (2-1 SO).

The shootout featured eight attempts between both teams. Cobourg's shootout goal was scored by Connor Armour. Whitby's other shootout goal was scored by Jack Lewis.

The Fury's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Cobourg power plays. Whitby forced the Cougars goalie CJ Sharp to work between the pipes, taking 42 shots.

The Fury were led by Matt Davis, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Davis scored 18:39 into the third period to make the score 4-3 Whitby. Shaquille Hickey provided the assist. Whitby additionally got points from Sam Gray, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Lewis also scored for Whitby. Other players who recorded assists for Whitby were Chris Raguseo, Henry Thompson, and Steven Deeg, who contributed one a piece.

Cobourg kept Whitby's goalie busy throughout the game, and Josh Hickey made 30 saves on 33 shots.

The Cougars were helped by Kenzie Smith, who finished with one goal. Smith scored 2:03 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Conner Hogg assisted on the tally. Cobourg also got a goal from Mitchell Burghardt as well. In addition, Cobourg received assists from Jake Emilio, Dalton Bew, Armour, and Mark MacAulay, who each chipped in one.

The Fury incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Sharp rejected 38 shots on goal for Cobourg. The Cougars incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
