North York hangs on, beats Toronto 2-0

Liam Kerins gave the North York Rangers the lead in the first period, and the Toronto Junior Canadiens was never able to catch up in a close game that ended 2-0.

North York took over the lead for good with a goal by Kerins at 8:06 in the first period. Chris Aitcheson assisted on the tally.

Kerins had a great game for the Rangers, netting two goals.

Jason Pucciarelli frustrated Toronto's offense all game, and stopped 40 shots en route to a shutout. Pucciarelli managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 3.65 prior to the game.

North York excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in nine chances. The Rangers were held below their usual level of production. North York averages 4.2 goals per game. The Rangers' offense rang up 35 shots on the Junior Canadiens' net. North York could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 26 minutes in penalties during the game.

More assists for North York came via Power Brody and Scott Maguire, who each chipped in one.

Toronto did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Junior Canadiens put an average of 3.2 pucks into the net per game. Toronto forced the Rangers goalie Pucciarelli to work between the pipes, taking 40 shots.

North York registered one goal on four power play opportunities. Denny Dubblestyne made 33 saves for the Junior Canadiens on 35 shots. Toronto incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
