Stouffville uses big second period to beat Lindsay, 8-1

The Stouffville Spirit scored five goals in the second period to pull away from the Lindsay Muskies and clinch an 8-1 win.

Stouffville's Daniel Mannella was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 25 saves and let only one puck past him. The solid play of Mannella will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 2.99.

Lindsay's 19 penalties came back to haunt it, as the Muskies let up six goals while on the penalty kill.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 2:28 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with four game misconducts.

The the Spirit penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled eight minors and one major for 21 minutes in penalty time. Stouffville had been averaging 16.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Spirit made Lindsay's goalies to work in net, ripping 51 shots and forcing 43 saves. Matt Robson made 18 stops and Tanner Davis made 25. Stouffville found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. The Spirit average 2.8 goals per game.

Stouffville was helped by Peyton Backus, who tallied one goal. Backus scored on the power play 1:12 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Stouffville. The Spirit had gotten the advantage when the Muskies' Tyler Donaldson was sent off for tripping. Nathanael Halbert picked up the assist. Stouffville additionally got points from Matthew Heffernan, who also had one goal and one assist and MARC STEVENS, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Stouffville also had goals scored by Stefan vonEngelbrechten, who had one and Justin Wain and Joseph Deveny, who scored two goals each. In addition, Stouffville received assists from Michael Morgan, Matthew Dunlop, Mackenzie Wood, and Michael Stevens, who contributed two a piece.

Lindsay was often in penalty trouble, totaling 18 minors and one major for 61 minutes in penalty time. The Muskies surpassed its season average of 20.0 penalty minutes per game. Lindsay's offense operated below it season average. The Muskies put an average of 3.6 pucks into the net per game.

Felix Chamberland also scored for Lindsay. More assists for Lindsay came via Louis-David Bourgault, who had one.

For Stouffville, Chad Burrows and Corey DeRose were ejected from the contest. Lindsay registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. Team's Cole Murduff and Bryce Sweeting were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
