Aurora wins tough contest against Whitby, 4-2

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Aurora Tigers escaped with a 4-2 victory over the Whitby Fury.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Taylor McCloy secured the win for Aurora with a goal in the third period.

McCloy was all over the ice for the Tigers, as he had two goals in the win.

Aurora's penalty kill excelled, as the Tigers gave up zero goals despite allowing seven power plays.

Aurora racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with eight minors and one major for 21 minutes in penalty time. The Tigers had been averaging 12.0 minutes in penalties per game. Aurora stifled Whitby's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Tigers' offense rang up 35 shots on the Fury's net.

Aurora also got points from Daniel Clairmont, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Aurora also got a goal from Daniel Lisi as well. More assists for Aurora came via David Iacono, who had two and Michael Keenan, Justin Nice, Adam Moody, and Adam DiBrina, who each chipped in one.

The Whitby penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled nine minors and one major for 23 minutes in penalty time. The Fury surpassed its season average of 15.0 penalty minutes per game. Whitby kept Aurora's goalie busy throughout the game, and Brett Sinclair made 34 saves on 36 shots.

The Fury were helped by Marco Azzano, who finished with one goal. Azzano scored 2:54 into the third period to make the score 2-2. Sam Gray picked up the assist. Jack Lewis also scored for Whitby. In addition, Whitby received assists from Spencer MacCormack, Henry Thompson, and Matt Davis, who contributed one a piece.

The Tigers registered two goals on seven power play opportunities. For Aurora, Zack MacArthur was ejected from the game. Whitby's Tyler Feaver stopped 31 shots out of the 34 that he faced. The Fury ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and MacCormack was ejected from the game.
