Newmarket survives Wellington comeback, wins 4-2Wellington CC Fri, Feb 01, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Newmarket Hurricanes survived a determined comeback attempt by the Wellington Dukes on the way to a 4-2 win. A goal by Daniel Leavens put Newmarket up 4-1 in the second period, but Wellington pulled to within two on Jan Kaminsky's tally 6:55 into the third period. The Hurricanes got the win behind a great game by Leavens, who had two goals and one assist. Leavens scored the first of his two goals at 9:05 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Newmarket. Travis Dermott assisted on the tally. Leavens' next tally made the score Newmarket with 5:50 left in the second period. Brandon Francisco provided the assist. Newmarket's offense rang up 34 shots on the Dukes' net. Newmarket also got a goal from Justin Maiolino as well. In addition, Newmarket received assists from David Savery, Brycin Morrison, and Kyler Nixon, who each chipped in one. Wellington managed to stay out of the box better than usual, racking up one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Dukes wound up below its season average of 9.0 penalty minutes per game. The Hurricanes were unable to stop Wellington from sending pucks towards the net, and the Dukes eventually piled up 40 shots on goal. Wellington also got points from Jake Marchment, who also registered one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Wellington were Spencer Turcotte, who had one. Lucas Peressini recorded 38 saves for Newmarket. The Hurricanes incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with two minors. Wellington's Matt Larose stopped 30 shots out of the 34 that he faced. The Dukes registered one goal on two power play opportunities.
