Oakville survives North York comeback, wins 5-4

The Oakville Blades, who led by three goals at one point, survived a comeback attempt by Oakville and clinched a 5-4 victory.

The Blades led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when Oakville's Len Fabbri's scored on the power play at 8:12 in the second period to put the Blades up 4-1.

Oakville was sparked by Stefan Leblanc, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Leblanc scored on the power play 13:14 into the third period to make the score 5-3 Oakville. The Blades had taken the advantage when the North York Rangers' John Carpino got sent off for abuse of officials. Kyle Jenkins assisted on the tally.

Oakville was paced by Leblanc, who had one goal and one assist.

The Blades made North York's netminders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, getting 31 shots and forcing 26 saves. Jason Pucciarelli made 19 stops and Keogh Jacob made seven. Oakville excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. The Blades were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 24 penalty minutes.

Oakville additionally got points from Patrick Chore, who also racked up one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Oakville also got a goal from Nathan Renouf as well. In addition, Oakville received assists from Jonah Renouf, who had two and Eli Berg and Spencer Green, who contributed one a piece.

The Rangers racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with six minors and one major for 47 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 18.0 minutes per game North York had been spending in the box. The Rangers' offense rang up 39 shots on Oakville's net.

North York was helped by Franco Loparco, who registered two goals. Loparco scored the first of his two goals at 17:03 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Oakville. Liam Kerins picked up the assist. Loparco's next tally made the score 4-2 Oakville with 3:25 left in the second period. Chris Aitcheson provided the assist. North York also got points from Kerins, who also tallied one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Corey Kalk also scored for North York. More assists for North York came via Patrick Piacentini, Michael Giacometti, and Scott Maguire, who each chipped in one.

Evan Buitenhuis recorded 35 saves for the Blades. Oakville registered three goals on eight power play opportunities. Team's Ryan Kinsella and Matthew Whittaker were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
