Lavigne leads Wellington to shutout victory over Newmarket

Hayden Lavigne was superb between the pipes for the Wellington Dukes, as he did not allow a goal in a 3-0 victory over the Newmarket Hurricanes.

Jake Marchment had two goals to lead Wellington to victory. Marchment's tallies came at 2:19 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Wellington and 15:31 into the third to make the score 3-0 Wellington.

The Dukes excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. Wellington featured an improved defense during the game. The Dukes average 2.7 goals allowed per game. Wellington forced Newmarket goalie Lucas Peressini to work between the pipes, taking 35 shots.

Wellington also got a goal from Craig Campbell as well. More assists for Wellington came via Spencer Turcotte, who had two and Brody Morris, Erick Delaurentis, and Austin Broadhurst, who each chipped in one.

The Hurricanes' offense operated below they season average. Newmarket averages 3.1 goals per game. The Hurricanes' offense rang up 33 shots on the Dukes' net.

Wellington's Lavigne stopped 33 shots out of the 33 that he faced. The Dukes incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors and had no power play opportunities. Lucas Peressini made 32 saves for Newmarket on 35 shots.
