Buffalo uses shootout to best Toronto Lakeshore, 5-4 (3-1 SO)Northtown Feature Mon, Jan 28, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Buffalo Jr. Sabres defeated the Toronto Lakeshore Patriots in a shootout 5-4 (3-1 SO). The shootout lasted for five attempts between the teams. Toronto Lakeshore's shootout goal was scored by Doug Bonar. In addition to the clincher, Buffalo got shootout goals from Tyler Gjurich and Josh Kielich.The Jr. Sabres got the win with help from a great game by Gjurich, who had two goals and one assist. Gjurich scored the first of his two goals short handed at 5:08 into the second period to make the score 1-1. A hooking call on Derek Patterson put Buffalo on the penalty kill. Gjurich's next tally short handed made the score 2-2 with 11:04 left in the second period. Nathan Pelligra assisted on the tally. The Patriots' power play was ineffective against the Jr. Sabres' penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded. Buffalo excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances. The Jr. Sabres kept Toronto Lakeshore's goalie busy throughout the game, and Joseph Pianta made 32 saves on 37 shots. Buffalo also got points from David Seward, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Buffalo also got a goal from Pat Egan as well. In addition, Buffalo received assists from Tony DeVito and Max Mikowski, who each chipped in one. The Patriots stifled Buffalo's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Toronto Lakeshore's offense rang up 50 shots on the Jr. Sabres' net. The Patriots were led by Mike Vallescuro, who tallied one goal and two assists. Vallescuro scored 18:52 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Toronto Lakeshore. Kelby Lorenz picked up the assist. Toronto Lakeshore additionally got points from Daniel Tedesco, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Niko Kovachis also scored for Toronto Lakeshore. Other players who recorded assists for Toronto Lakeshore were Kyle Dutra and William Seligman, who contributed one a piece. Parker Gahagen rejected 46 shots on goal for Buffalo. The Jr. Sabres incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Toronto Lakeshore incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
