North York completes comeback, beats Hamilton, 5-3

The North York Rangers climbed out of a three-goal hole to beat the Hamilton Red Wings, 5-3.

North York never led in the game until netting the game winner. The Rangers fell behind 3-0 after a power play goal by Hamilton's Patrice Fozo at 13:08 in the first period. North York tied things up at 3-3 on a goal by John Carpino at 17:25 in the second period. The Rangers got the game winner at 8:04 in the third period on a goal by Carpino.

Carpino had a great game for North York, netting two goals.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 10:55 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The Rangers racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 12 minors and two majors for 34 minutes in penalty time. North York surpassed its season average of 17.0 penalty minutes per game. The Rangers kept the Red Wings' goalie busy throughout the game, and Allen Avery made 53 saves on 58 shots. North York was ineffective while on the power play, as it was held to one goal off of 12 man advantages.

North York additionally got points from Taylor Pryce, who also racked up two goals and one assist to lead the team in points. Fung Zachary also scored for North York. More assists for North York came via Power Brody, Ryan Kinsella, and Scott Maguire, who contributed one a piece and Chris Aitcheson, Corey Kalk, and Michael Giacometti, who each chipped in two.

Hamilton was often in penalty trouble, totaling 14 minors and two majors for 38 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 26.0 minutes per game the Red Wings had been spending in the box.

Hamilton was helped by Sam Berg, who tallied one goal. Berg scored 6:21 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Hamilton. Harrison Luce assisted on the tally. Hamilton also got points from Troy Crema, who also registered one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Hamilton were Niko Porikos, Jason OConnor, and Alex LeBrosse, who contributed one a piece.

Keogh Jacob made 17 saves for the Rangers on 20 shots. For North York, Lapierre Charles, Kinsella, and Dana Tenenbaum were ejected from the contest. The Red Wings registered two goals on 11 power play opportunities. Team's Luce and Berg were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
