Stouffville uses shootout to best Lindsay, 4-3 (2-1 SO)Lindsay Recreation Centre Fri, Jan 18, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Stouffville Spirit defeated the Lindsay Muskies in a shootout 4-3 (2-1 SO). The shootout lasted for 10 attempts between the teams. Lindsay got a shootout goal from William Pelletier. Stouffville's other shootout goal was scored by Michael Stevens.The Spirit saw a two-goal lead disappear, but was able to secure the win in a shootout. Stouffville made the score 3-1 on a goal by Daryl Thompson at 9:28 in the second period. The Muskies evened things up at 3-3 on a goal by Dylan Fitze at 19:55 in the third period. Thompson had two goals to lead the Spirit to victory. Stouffville's offense rang up 39 shots on Lindsay's net. The Spirit's penalty kill unit could not stop the Muskies' power play, which converted on two of three opportunities. Stefan vonEngelbrechten also scored for Stouffville. In addition, Stouffville received assists from Matthew Heffernan, Taylor Joseph, Robert Powers, and MARC STEVENS, who contributed one a piece. Lindsay forced Stouffville goalie Daniel Mannella to work between the pipes, taking 47 shots. The Muskies were helped by Pelletier, who finished with one goal. Pelletier scored on the power play 8:02 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Lindsay. Lindsay had gotten the advantage when the Spirit's Thompson was sent off for slashing. Louis-David Bourgault assisted on the tally. Lindsay also got a goal from Vince Herlihey as well. More assists for Lindsay came via Matt McCartney, Corey Jackson, and Brian Hubers, who each chipped in one. Stouffville's Mannella stopped 44 shots out of the 47 that he faced. The Spirit incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Tanner Davis recorded 35 saves for the Muskies. Lindsay incurred 32 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
