Oakville uses shootout to best Toronto Lakeshore, 2-1 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Oakville Blades defeated the Toronto Lakeshore Patriots in a shootout 2-1 (1-0 SO).

The shootout featured six attempts between both teams.

Toronto Lakeshore was stymied by Oakville netminder Evan Buitenhuis, who stopped 41 shots during the victory. Buitenhuis certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.26 entering the contest.

The Patriots were unable to stop the Blades from sending pucks towards the net, and Oakville eventually piled up 34 shots on goal.

The Blades were led by Rory Bell, who tallied one goal. Bell scored 19:21 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Oakville. Zach Berg assisted on the tally. In addition, Oakville received assists from Kyle Jenkins, who had one.

Toronto Lakeshore's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Oakville power plays. The Patriots could not produce up to they normal offensive output. Toronto Lakeshore puts an average of 4.0 pucks into the net per game. The Patriots' offense rang up 42 shots on Oakville's net. Toronto Lakeshore did not rack up many penalties in the contest, finishing with only one minor for 12 minutes in penalty time.

The Patriots were led by Daniel Tedesco, who scored the team's only goal. Tedesco scored on the power play 13:30 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Toronto Lakeshore had gained a power play chance when Vince Palermo was whistled for head contact. Alex D Oliveira picked up the assist.

The Blades incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors. The Patriots' Joseph Pianta stopped 32 shots out of the 33 that he faced. Toronto Lakeshore registered one goal on four power play opportunities.
