Cobourg holds on for 2-1 win against NewmarketRay Twinney Rink 1 Thu, Jan 17, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Cobourg Cougars survived a determined comeback attempt by the Newmarket Hurricanes on the way to a 2-1 win. Cobourg made the score 2-0 on a goal by Colbie Andrews at 9:10 in the third period, and Newmarket got as close as 2-1 when Calvin Higley scored 11:59 into the third period. The Hurricanes were stymied by the Cougars netminder Nathan Perry, who stopped 37 shots during the victory. The solid play of Perry will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 2.67. Cobourg also got a goal from Conner Hogg as well. Other players who recorded assists for Cobourg were Theo Lewis, Justin Danforth, Connor Armour, and Mark MacAulay, who contributed one a piece. Newmarket's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Cobourg power plays. The Hurricanes could not produce up to they normal offensive output. Newmarket averages 3.1 goals per game. Cobourg was unable to stop the Hurricanes from sending pucks towards the net, and Newmarket eventually piled up 38 shots on goal. In addition, Newmarket received assists from Travis Dermott and Daniel Leavens, who each chipped in one. The Cougars incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Matthew Wintjes recorded 27 saves for the Hurricanes. Newmarket incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
