Orangeville uses shootout to best Buffalo, 4-3 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Orangeville Flyers defeated the Buffalo Jr. Sabres in a shootout 4-3 (1-0 SO).

The two teams needed eight turns to complete the shootout.

Mathew Thompson had a great game for Orangeville, netting two goals. Thompson found the back of the net 51 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Orangeville and again while 5:33 into the second to make the score 3-2 Orangeville.

The Flyers managed to stay out of the box better than usual, finishing with one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Orangeville finished below its season average of 15.0 penalty minutes per game.

Brandon Gaudette also scored for Orangeville. In addition, Orangeville received assists from Kyle Wood, Geoffrey Bagnall, Angelpooulos Peter, and James Pitsadiotis, who each chipped in one.

Buffalo managed to stay out of the box better than usual, tallying one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Jr. Sabres wound up below its season average of 16.0 penalty minutes per game.

Buffalo was helped by Nolan Sheeran, who tallied one goal. Sheeran scored 2:06 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Buffalo. Brian Ruff picked up the assist. Buffalo also got a goal from Ryan Schmelzer as well. Other players who recorded assists for Buffalo were Kollin Schultz, Max Mikowski, and Nathan Pelligra, who contributed one a piece.

Bo Bessette rejected 26 shots on goal for the Flyers. Orangeville registered zero goals on one power play opportunities. Parker Gahagen recorded 24 saves for the Jr. Sabres. Buffalo registered zero goals on one power play opportunities.
