Whitby uses early goal to top Cobourg, 4-2

The Whitby Fury took the lead against the Cobourg Cougars in the first period and maintained it until the end of the game to secure a tight 4-2 victory.

A goal 6:11 into the the first period by Jonathan OHara proved to be the game winner, and powered Whitby to the victory Marco Azzano assisted on the tally.

The Fury were led by Henry Thompson, who registered one goal. Thompson scored 11:30 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Whitby. Shaquille Hickey picked up the assist.

Whitby excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances.

Whitby additionally got points from Jack Lewis, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Sam Gray also scored for Whitby.

Cobourg put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Fury to score on any of their six power plays. The Cougars kept Whitby's goalie busy throughout the game, and Tyler Feaver made 29 saves on 31 shots.

Cobourg was helped by Conner Hogg, who grabbed one goal. Hogg scored short handed 8:03 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Whitby. The Cougars were on a disadvantage when Conor Carson went off the ice for slashing. Cody Mintz provided the assist. Cobourg also got a goal from Colbie Andrews as well. Other players who recorded assists for Cobourg were Kenzie Smith, who had one.

The Fury incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Cobourg's Nathan Perry stopped 26 shots out of the 29 that he faced. The Cougars incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. For Cobourg, Jake Emilio was ejected from the game.
