Dawe stymies Cobourg, Stouffville wins 2-1Stouffville Arena Sat, Sep 29, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
Knick Dawe stood on his head and made 35 saves to lead the Stouffville Spirit to a 2-1 victory over the Cobourg Cougars. Stouffville pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 16 penalty minutes. The Spirit were led by Joseph Deveny, who grabbed one goal. Deveny scored 15:02 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Stouffville. Thomas Tsicos provided the assist. Stouffville was shut out on the power play, going scoring scoreless on nine chances with a man advantage. Stouffville also got a goal from Alex Botten as well. Other players who recorded assists for Stouffville were Josh Carrick and Matthew Dunlop, who each chipped in one. Cobourg stifled the Spirit's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Cougars forced Stouffville goalie Dawe to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots. Cobourg was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 28 penalty minutes. The Cougars were led by Cody Mintz, who scored the team's only goal. Mintz scored on the power play 9:42 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Cobourg. Cobourg earned a power play opportunity when Dylan Savory was put in the box for high sticking. Justin Danforth assisted on the tally. The Cougars' Joe Keyser stopped 26 shots out of the 28 that he faced. Cobourg registered one goal on seven power play opportunities.
