Buffalo rips Burlington, 14-2

The Buffalo Jr. Sabres had a seven-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 14-2 win over the Burlington Cougars.

Buffalo got the win on the strength of a great game by Pat Egan, who had one goal and two assists. Egan scored on the power play 5:48 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Buffalo. The Jr. Sabres earned a power play opportunity when Adam Burnett was put in the box for cross checking. Alex Dagnal assisted on the tally.

Buffalo made Cougars' goaltenders to work in net, finishing with 51 shots and forcing 37 saves. Alex Murray made 24 stops and Brock Novak made 13. The Jr. Sabres' goal total was higher than their season average. Buffalo has scored at the pace of 4.5 goals per game during the current campaign. The defensemen of the Jr. Sabres were also effective in Burlington's zone, and came away with three goals.

Buffalo additionally got points from Ryan Schmelzer, who also racked up two goals and three assists to lead the team in points, Derek Patterson, who also grabbed one goal and three assists, Nathan Pelligra, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Nick Scamurra, who also had two goals and two assists, Sean Federow, who also finished with one goal and two assists, and Nathan Sucese, who also registered one goal and one assist. Buffalo also had goals scored by Josh Kielich, who had two and Kollin Schultz, Max Mikowski, and Ryall Ledyard, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Buffalo were Nolan Sheeran, who had one, Darrin Trebes, who had three, and Ben Casale and Nick Smith, who each chipped in two.

Bobby Bloomfield recorded 18 saves for Buffalo. The Jr. Sabres incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. The Cougars incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Burlington ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Murray was ejected from the game.
