Newmarket holds on for 5-3 win against Whitby

The Whitby Fury tried to dig themselves out of a four-goal hole, but the Newmarket Hurricanes held on for a 5-3 victory.

Newmarket made the score 5-1 on a goal by Brandon Francisco at 16:28 in the second period, and Whitby got as close as 5-3 when Matt Davis scored 17:53 into the third period.

The Hurricanes made Fury's netminders to work without much rest, finishing with 35 shots and forcing 30 saves. Tyler Feaver made 24 stops and Josh Hickey made six.

Newmarket was helped by Chris Chiste, who grabbed three goals. Newmarket additionally got points from Francisco, who also registered one goal and two assists. Newmarket also got a goal from Ian Farrell as well. In addition, Newmarket received assists from Daniel Leavens, who had four and Travis Dermott, Austin Rigney, Justin Maiolino, and Kyler Nixon, who contributed one a piece.

Chris Raguseo also scored for Whitby. More assists for Whitby came via Taylor Best, who had one and Jack Lewis, who had two.

Lucas Peressini made 25 saves for the Hurricanes on 28 shots. Newmarket incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Fury incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
