The Whitby Fury tried to dig themselves out of a four-goal hole, but the Newmarket Hurricanes held on for a 5-3 victory.

Newmarket made the score 5-1 on a goal by Brandon Francisco at 16:28 in the second period, and Whitby got as close as 5-3 when Matt Davis scored 17:53 into the third period.

The Hurricanes made Fury's netminders to work without much rest, finishing with 35 shots and forcing 30 saves. Tyler Feaver made 24 stops and Josh Hickey made six.

Newmarket was helped by Chris Chiste, who grabbed three goals. Newmarket additionally got points from Francisco, who also registered one goal and two assists. Newmarket also got a goal from Ian Farrell as well.
