Pickering wins tough contest against Stouffville, 4-2Pickering Recreation Complex Fri, Jan 04, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Pickering Panthers escaped with a 4-2 victory over the Stouffville Spirit. Pickering gained the winning advantage on a goal by Cody Doiron 10:59 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer. The Panthers were sparked by Doiron, who tallied one goal and one assist. Pickering excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. Pickering additionally got points from Tanner Bull, who also had one goal and one assist and Jeff Heard, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Alex Clements also scored for Pickering. More assists for Pickering came via Mark Tenuta and Cory Lauer, who contributed one a piece. Stouffville stifled the Panthers' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Pickering was unable to stop the Spirit from sending pucks towards the net, and Stouffville eventually piled up 39 shots on goal. The Spirit were helped by Justin Wain, who registered one goal. Wain scored 7:51 into the third period to make the score 2-2. Dylan Savory provided the assist. Stouffville also got points from Savory, who also tallied one goal and one assist. In addition, Stouffville received assists from Daryl Thompson, who had one. The Panthers' Conor Barrie stopped 37 shots out of the 39 that he faced. Pickering incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Braydon Banitsiotis made 16 saves for Stouffville on 20 shots. The Spirit incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
