Orangeville squeaks by Mississauga, 6-4Alder St. Recreation Centre Wed, Jan 02, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Orangeville Flyers gutted out a close 6-4 win against the Mississauga Chargers. Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Blake Forslund's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker. Orangeville was sparked by Peter Stepanis, who tallied one goal. Stepanis scored 8:36 into the third period to make the score 5-3 Orangeville. Mathew Thompson provided the assist. In a losing effort, Mississauga was led by Ryan Hunter, who racked up two goals. Hunter scored the first of his two goals at 45 seconds into the second period to make the score 2-2. Hunter's next tally made the score 5-4 Orangeville with 10:25 left in the third period. Matt Donnelly picked up the assist. The Flyers excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. Orangeville's offense rang up 55 shots on the Chargers' net. The Flyers found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Orangeville averages 3.3 goals per game. Orangeville also got points from Kelby Lorenz, who also had one goal and one assist, Thompson, who also registered one goal and two assists to lead the team in points, and Brandon Gaudette, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Thomas Tsicos also scored for Orangeville. More assists for Orangeville came via Kyle Wood, Jason Abbott, and Jordan Carvalho, who contributed one a piece and Geoffrey Bagnall and Joshua Decosta, who each chipped in two. Mississauga kept the Flyers' goalie busy throughout the game, and Bryan APJ Raymond made 31 saves on 35 shots. Mississauga also got a goal from Trevor Warnaar as well. In addition, Mississauga received assists from Stefano Alonzi, Cosimo Fontana, A Valente, and Mitchell Mehling, who contributed one a piece. Orangeville incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Flyers ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Emmerson Small was ejected from the game. Austin Washkurak recorded 49 saves for the Chargers. Mississauga incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
