Gjurich's big game bests Milton in 9-1 Buffalo win

Tyler Gjurich was all over the ice for the Buffalo Jr. Sabres, as he tallied one goal and four assists in Buffalo's 9-1 win over the Milton Icehawks.

Gjurich beat Justin Urquhart with a shot 4:14 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Buffalo. Pat Egan picked up the assist. Gjurich dished an assist on Tony DeVito's goal that made the score 2-0 Buffalo at 7:01 into the first period. He then added assists on Sean Federow's goal at 8:44 into the first, on Ryan Schmelzer's goal at 7:26 into the second, and on Schmelzer's goal at 12:14 into the third.

The Jr. Sabres were led by goalie Parker Gahagen, who finished with 32 saves while allowing one goal. The solid play of Gahagen will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 2.53.

Buffalo put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Milton to score on any of its four power plays. The Jr. Sabres kept the Icehawks' goalie busy throughout the game, and Urquhart made 24 saves on 33 shots. Buffalo surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Jr. Sabres have scored at the pace of 4.3 goals per game during the current campaign. The defensemen of Buffalo were also effective in Milton's zone, and came away with four goals.

Buffalo additionally got points from DeVito, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Schmelzer, who also had two goals and two assists, and Federow, who also registered two goals and two assists. Darrin Trebes also scored for Buffalo. In addition, Buffalo received assists from Max Mikowski, Nathan Pelligra, David Seward, and Ryan Kuhn, who each chipped in one.

The Icehawks were often in penalty trouble, totaling six minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 21.0 minutes per game Milton had been spending in the box. The Icehawks could not produce up to they normal offensive output. Milton puts an average of 3.9 pucks into the net per game. The Jr. Sabres were unable to stop the Icehawks from sending pucks towards the net, and Milton eventually piled up 33 shots on goal.

Buffalo totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 2-for-5 on the power play. For the Jr. Sabres, Ryall Ledyard was ejected from the game. The Icehawks ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Tye Campbell was ejected from the game.
