Stouffville falls apart in second, loses to Newmarket, 12-0

The Stouffville Spirit was within striking distance after one period, but the Newmarket Hurricanes put the pedal down in the second en route to a 12-0 victory.

Newmarket was boosted by Matthew Wintjes, who turned in a shutout with 25 saves. Wintjes managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.22 prior to the game.

Ian Farrell had one goal and two assists to lead the Hurricanes. Farrell scored 6:15 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Newmarket. Jordan Dunin provided the assist.

Newmarket's defensive effort looked to be improved. The Hurricanes gives up 2.3 goals on average per game. Newmarket's offense rang up 56 shots on Stouffville's net. The Hurricanes outdid their season average for goals scored. Newmarket averages 3.1 goals per game. The Hurricanes took advantage of the Spirit's penalties, tallying three goals off of five power play opportunities.

Newmarket also got points from Dunin, who also tallied two goals and one assist, Brandon Francisco, who also registered two goals and two assists to lead the team in points, Daniel Leavens, who also had one goal and two assists, and JP Crescenzi, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Newmarket included Calvin Higley, who had two and Elliott Burlon, who had three. In addition, Newmarket received assists from David Savery, Sean Walker, Chris Chiste, Justin Maiolino, Matt LeMasurier, and Thomas Beretta, who each chipped in two.

Stouffville was held below its usual level of production. The Spirit put an average of 3.0 pucks into the net per game.

Newmarket incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Stouffville's Brandon Klerer APJ stopped 44 shots out of the 56 that he faced. The Spirit incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
