Burlington pulls away in second, rolls over Milton, 6-2Wave Twin Rinks - Black Sun, Dec 23, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Milton Icehawks allowed the Burlington Cougars to net three goals during the second period and fell, 6-2. Shane Conacher was all over the ice for Burlington, as he finished with two goals in the win. Conacher scored at 10:48 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Burlington and again while 11:49 into the second to make the score 3-1 Burlington. The Cougars found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Burlington averages 3.8 goals per game. The Cougars' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Burlington finished with 26 penalty minutes. The Cougars were ineffective while on the power play, as they were held to two goals off of 13 man advantages. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals. Burlington additionally got points from Jeremy Gottzmann, who also had two goals and one assist to lead the team in points. Burlington also got a goal from Ellery O Hara as well. More assists for Burlington came via Luke Sinclair, who had two, Cooper Richards, who had three, and Gavin Shantz, Mike Sones, Adam Burnett, Mark Rodgers, and Alex Murray, who contributed one a piece. Milton's offense operated below it season average. The Icehawks average 4.1 goals per game. Milton kept Burlington's goalie busy throughout the game, and Murray made 32 saves on 34 shots. The Icehawks were led by Shane Bennett, who racked up one goal. Bennett scored on the power play 5:17 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Milton earned a power play opportunity when Shantz was put in the box for cross checking. Austin Kosack assisted on the tally. Tye Campbell also scored for Milton. In addition, Milton received assists from Jake Baird, Michael Capicotto, and Karndeep Natt, who each chipped in one. The Cougars ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Adam Glynn was ejected from the game. Justin Urquhart recorded 23 saves for the Icehawks. Milton incurred 42 minutes in penalty time with six minors. For the Icehawks, Brad Kobryn was ejected from the game.
