Burlington uses shootout to best Georgetown, 3-2 (2-1 SO)Wave Twin Rinks - Black Sat, Dec 22, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Burlington Cougars defeated the Georgetown Raiders in a shootout 3-2 (2-1 SO). The shootout featured 10 attempts between both teams. Georgetown got a shootout goal from Jacob Bauchman. In addition to the clincher, Burlington got a shootout goal from Jeremy Gottzmann.The Cougars stifled the Raiders' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Georgetown was unable to stop Burlington from sending pucks towards the net, and the Cougars eventually piled up 34 shots on goal. Burlington was helped by Mark Rodgers, who tallied one goal. Rodgers scored on the power play 10:15 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Burlington. The Cougars earned a power play opportunity when John Adams was put in the box for hooking. Shane Conacher picked up the assist. Burlington also got a goal from Gottzmann as well. Other players who recorded assists for Burlington were Tyler Mayea and Adam Glynn, who contributed one a piece. The Raiders kept Burlington's goalie busy throughout the game, and Alex Murray made 42 saves on 44 shots. Georgetown was helped by Drake Hart, who finished with one goal. Hart scored 19:54 into the third period to make the score 2-2. Bauchman assisted on the tally. Alex Adams also scored for Georgetown. In addition, Georgetown received assists from Alex Botten and Robbie Murden, who each chipped in one. The Cougars incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Knick Dawe made 31 saves for the Raiders on 33 shots. Georgetown incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
