North York penalty kill dominates in 7-4 defeat of MiltonMilton Memorial Arena Fri, Dec 21, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Milton Icehawks failed to take advantage of their power play opportunities and the North York Rangers shook off a number of penalties to win, 7-4. North York was led by Chris Aitcheson, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Aitcheson scored on the power play 1:12 into the third period to make the score 5-3 North York. Corey Kalk assisted on the tally. In the losing effort, Milton was led by Shane Bennett, who racked up two goals and one assist. Bennett scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 16:05 into the second period to make the score 4-2 North York. The Icehawks earned a power play opportunity when Aitcheson was put in the box for hooking. Justin Devincentis picked up the assist. Bennett's next tally on the power play made the score 4-3 North York with 1:17 left in the second period. Daniel Holt provided the assist. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 17:56 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts. The Rangers racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with six minors and two majors for 22 minutes in penalty time. North York surpassed its season average of 18.0 penalty minutes per game. The Rangers kept Milton's goalie busy throughout the game, and Justin Urquhart made 28 saves on 35 shots. North York's goal total was higher than its season average. The Rangers average 4.3 goals per game. Team could not crack the Icehawks' penalty kill and was held to two power play goals while having nine opportunities to play with the man advantage. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals. North York additionally got points from Galli Austin, who also registered one goal and one assist, Kalk, who also finished with one goal and two assists, and Liam Kerins, who also grabbed one goal and two assists. North York also got a goal from Power Brody as well. Other players who recorded assists for North York were John Carpino, who had two, Patrick Piacentini, who had three, and Ryan Kinsella and Dana Tenenbaum, who contributed one a piece. Milton was often in penalty trouble, totaling nine minors and two majors for 28 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 21.0 minutes per game the Icehawks had been spending in the box. Milton forced North York goalie Keogh Jacob to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots. Michael Capicotto also scored for Milton.
