The Burlington Cougars had trouble finding ways to stop the North York Rangers, which beat Cougars, 7-2. John Carpino had a great game for North York, netting two goals. Carpino found the back of the net 5:18 into the second period to make the score 3-1 North York and again while 10:41 into the third to make the score 6-2 North York. Burlington was doomed by its poor performance on special teams, as the Rangers were able to score four times while on the power play. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 10:10 into the third period. Three fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts. North York forced the Cougars' netminders to work between the pipes, getting 43 shots and forcing 36 saves. Brock Novak made 28 stops and Alex Murray made eight. The Rangers excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. North York bested its season scoring average. The Rangers average 4.3 goals per game. North York could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 17 minutes in penalties during the game. The Rangers got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game. North York also got points from Chris Aitcheson, who also registered one goal and one assist and Fung Zachary, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Others who scored for North York included Matthew Whittaker, who had one and Michael Giacometti, who had two. More assists for North York came via Galli Austin, Ryan Kinsella, Liam Kerins, Nicholas Geiser, and Scott Maguire, who each chipped in one and Patrick Piacentini and Corey Kalk, who contributed two a piece. Burlington forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 18 minors and one major for 41 minutes in penalty time. The Cougars had been averaging 23.0 minutes in penalties per game. Burlington forced North York goalie Keogh Jacob to work between the pipes, taking 38 shots. The Cougars were led by Tyler VanKleef, who had two goals. VanKleef scored the first of his two goals at 5:14 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Burlington. Jack OHara assisted on the tally. VanKleef's next tally made the score 3-2 North York with 14:09 left in the second period. Alex Landry provided the assist. Other players who recorded assists for Burlington were Steven Mueller and Tyler Mayea, who each chipped in one. The Rangers' Jacob stopped 36 shots out of the 38 that he faced. North York ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Geiser was ejected from the game. For Burlington, Daniel Campbell was ejected from the game.
