St. Michaels beats Buffalo 5-3 after comeback scare

The Buffalo Jr. Sabres tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the St. Michaels Buzzers held on for a 5-3 victory.

St. Michaels took a 5-2 lead during the third period, only to have Buffalo storm back on a Pat Egan goal 16:30 into the third period to pull to two goals down.

The Buzzers were sparked by Jordan Merante, who registered one goal and one assist. Merante scored short handed 4:28 into the third period to make the score 4-2 St. Michaels. St. Michaels found itself down a man on Matt Pepler's hooking. Joseph Berton assisted on the tally.

The Buzzers' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Buffalo power plays. St. Michaels' offense rang up 36 shots on the Jr. Sabres' net.

St. Michaels additionally got points from Matt Buckles, who also tallied one goal and one assist. St. Michaels also got a goal from David Italiano as well. In addition, St. Michaels received assists from Michael Neville, who had two and Ian Edmondson, Stephen Pietrobon, and Nicholas Lepone, who each chipped in one.

Buffalo kept the Buzzers' goalie busy throughout the game, and Adrian Ignagni made 39 saves on 42 shots.

Tyler Gjurich also scored for Buffalo. More assists for Buffalo came via Derek Patterson, who had two and Josh Kielich, David Seward, Tim Kielich, and Sean Federow, who contributed one a piece.

St. Michaels incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Parker Gahagen made 31 saves for the Jr. Sabres on 36 shots. Buffalo incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
