Trenton falls to Whitby after surprising comeback

The Trenton Golden Hawks could not hold down the Whitby Fury, and Fury erased a two-goal deficit en route to a 3-2 win.

Whitby never led in the game until netting the game winner. The Fury was down 2-0 after a goal by Trenton's Krystian Yorke at 2:08 in the second period. Whitby tied things up at 2-2 on a power play goal by Jack Lewis at 6:32 in the second period. The Fury netted the game winner at 13:11 in the second period on a goal by Lewis.

In the losing effort, the Golden Hawks were led by Yorke, who had two goals. Yorke scored the first of his two goals at 3:22 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Trenton. Alex Leader provided the assist. Yorke's next tally made the score Trenton with 17:52 left in the second period. Erlich Doerksen assisted on the tally.

Whitby managed to stay out of the box better than usual, racking up one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Fury wound up below its season average of 16.0 penalty minutes per game. Trenton was unable to stop Whitby from sending pucks towards the net, and the Fury eventually piled up 36 shots on goal.

Whitby was helped by Sean Deroch, who racked up one goal. Whitby additionally got points from Lewis, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Whitby also got a goal from Greg Milner as well. In addition, Whitby received assists from Nick Neal, Jonathan OHara, Sam Gray, and Taylor Best, who each chipped in one.

The Golden Hawks' offense rang up 35 shots on the Fury's net.

More assists for Trenton came via Brandon Scott, who had two.

Tyler Feaver made 33 saves for Whitby on 35 shots. The Fury registered one goal on six power play opportunities. Trenton's Victor Adamo stopped 33 shots out of the 36 that he faced. The Golden Hawks incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
