Huge game by Renouf boosts Oakville over Hamilton, 11-5

Nathan Renouf had one goal and four assists to lead the Oakville Blades to an 11-5 victory over the Hamilton Red Wings.

Renouf got on the board by slotting home a short handed goal 14:49 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Oakville. Oakville played down a man on Greg Campbell's cross checking. Jonah Renouf assisted on the tally. Renouf dished an assist on Eli Berg's goal that made the score 2-1 Oakville at 12:12 into the first period. He then added assists on Renouf's goal at 18:29 into the first, on Zach Berg's goal at 7:08 into the second, and on Kyle Jenkins' goal at 18:13 into the third.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 18:19 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The Blades forced Hamilton goalie Bret Gilmore to work between the pipes, taking 45 shots. Oakville found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. This season, the Blades average 4.3 goals per contest. Oakville's defense let in more goals than it usually has this year. The Blades average 2.3 goals allowed per game. Oakville was often in penalty trouble, as it ended with six minors and one major for 17 minutes in penalty time. The Blades got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed three goals during the game.

Oakville additionally got points from Berg, who also finished with two goals and one assist, Renouf, who also grabbed one goal and four assists to lead the team in points, Matt Alvaro, who also tallied two goals and one assist, and Len Fabbri, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Oakville also got a goal from Patrick Chore as well. In addition, Oakville received assists from Aidan Orbinski, who had two, Eric Chore, who had three, and Kris Bennet, Jimmy Cusan, and Stefan Leblanc, who each chipped in one.

The Red Wings was not heavily penalized during the game, and finished with seven minors and one major totalling 19 minutes. Hamilton fell short of the 26.0 minutes average penalties per game. The Red Wings stifled Oakville's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Hamilton was led by Luke Laidlaw, who finished with two goals and two assists. Laidlaw scored the first of his two goals at 8:32 into the second period to make the score 6-2 Oakville. Adam Brady picked up the assist. Laidlaw's next tally made the score 9-4 Oakville with 19:05 left in the third period. Hamilton also got points from Brady, who also had two goals and one assist. Oliver Hyman also scored for Hamilton. More assists for Hamilton came via Sam Berg, who had one and Dylan Hutton, who had three.

The Blades' starting goalie, Spencer Bacon, made 22 saves and finished with the win before he was taken out in favor of Evan Buitenhuis, who stopped two shots. Oakville registered zero goals on six power play opportunities. The Blades ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Sean Perichak was ejected from the game. The Red Wings' Gilmore stopped 34 shots out of the 45 that he faced. Hamilton registered one goal on five power play opportunities. For the Red Wings, Chris Micallef was ejected from the game.
