Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Cobourg Cougars defeated the Pickering Panthers in a shootout 6-5 (1-0 SO). The two teams needed six turns to complete the shootout.Cobourg saw a three-goal lead disappear, but was able to secure the win in a shootout. The Cougars made the score 5-2 on a power play goal by Dylan Goddard at 3:08 in the third period. Pickering evened things up at 5-5 on a power play goal by Robert Lepine at 19:18 in the third period. Colbie Andrews had two goals and one assist to lead Cobourg. Andrews scored the first of his two goals at 7:37 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Cobourg. Theo Lewis assisted on the tally. Andrews' next tally made the score 3-2 Cobourg with 5:24 left in the second period. Justin Danforth picked up the assist. The Cougars' offense rang up 40 shots on the Panthers' net. Cobourg surpassed its usual scoring output this season. This season, the Cougars average 3.1 goals per contest. Cobourg also got points from Evan Jasper, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Jake Emilio also scored for Cobourg. In addition, Cobourg received assists from Connor Armour, who had one. Pickering forced Cobourg goalie Nathan Perry to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots. The Panthers' goal total was higher than their season average. Pickering has scored at the pace of 2.9 goals per game during the current campaign. The Panthers were led by Derek Sheppard, who registered one goal and two assists. Sheppard scored 15:26 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Josh Herrington provided the assist.
