Stouffville vanquishes Lindsay in shootout, 6-5 (2-1 SO)Stouffville Arena Thu, Dec 06, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Stouffville Spirit defeated the Lindsay Muskies in a shootout 6-5 (2-1 SO). The shootout featured six attempts between both teams. Lindsay got a shootout goal from Dean Klomp. In addition to the clincher, Stouffville got a shootout goal from Stefan vonEngelbrechten.The Spirit came back from a four-goal deficit to capture the victory. Stouffville was down 4-0 after a goal by the Muskies' Vince Herlihey at 9:38 in the second period. The Spirit knotted things up at 5-5 on a goal by Dylan Fitze at 16:49 in the third period. vonEngelbrechten was all over the ice for Stouffville, as he grabbed two goals in the win. vonEngelbrechten found the back of the net on the power play 15:11 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Lindsay and again while 5:33 into the third to make the score 4-4. The Spirit stifled Lindsay's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Stouffville's offense rang up 40 shots on the Muskies' net. The Spirit outdid their season average for goals scored. Stouffville has scored at the pace of 3.2 goals per game during the current campaign. Stouffville also got points from Dylan Savory, who also racked up one goal and two assists to lead the team in points and Robert Powers, who also had one goal and one assist. Stouffville also got a goal from Corey DeRose as well. In addition, Stouffville received assists from Sean Power, Matthew Heffernan, and Michael Stevens, who contributed one a piece. Lindsay kept the Spirit's goalie busy throughout the game, and Daniel Mannella made 33 saves on 38 shots. Patrick Thornton also scored for Lindsay. More assists for Lindsay came via Jacob Walters, who had one and Klomp, who had three. Stouffville incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. The Muskies' Tanner Davis stopped 34 shots out of the 39 that he faced. Lindsay incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
