Toronto Lakeshore falls to Buffalo after surprising comebackNorthtown Feature Tue, Dec 18, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
Undaunted by a two-goal deficit, the Buffalo Jr. Sabres battled back to claim a 3-2 victory over the Toronto Lakeshore Patriots. Buffalo never led in the game until netting the game winner. The Jr. Sabres was down 2-0 after a goal by Toronto Lakeshore's Kevin Shier at 13:15 in the second period. Buffalo knotted things up at 2-2 on a power play goal by Tyler Gjurich at 5:12 in the third period. The Jr. Sabres netted the game winner on the power play at 14:07 in the third period on a goal by Gjurich. Gjurich had two goals and one assist to lead Buffalo. Gjurich scored the first of his two goals at 47 seconds into the third period to make the score 2-1 Toronto Lakeshore. Ryan Schmelzer picked up the assist. Gjurich's next tally made the score with 14:48 left in the third period. The Jr. Sabres had gained a power play chance when Shier was whistled for holding. Schmelzer assisted on the tally. Buffalo put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Patriots to score on any of their three power plays. The Jr. Sabres forced Toronto Lakeshore goalie Joseph Pianta to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots. Buffalo also got a goal from Sean Federow as well. Other players who recorded assists for Buffalo were Nick Scamurra and Nolan Sheeran, who contributed one a piece. Wes Deme also scored for Toronto Lakeshore. In addition, Toronto Lakeshore received assists from Mike Vallescuro, who had two and Daniel Tedesco and Luke Carter, who each chipped in one. Parker Gahagen rejected 27 shots on goal for Buffalo. The Jr. Sabres incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Pianta recorded 33 saves for the Patriots. Toronto Lakeshore incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
