Whitby beats Kingston 4-2 after comeback scareINVISTA Center Sun, Nov 25, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Kingston Voyageurs tried their best to erase a three-goal deficit, but the Whitby Fury would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 4-2. A goal by Greg Milner put Whitby up 4-1 in the third period, but Kingston pulled to within two on Chad Duchesne's tally 18:21 into the third period. The Fury were led by Mike Panowyk, who racked up one goal. Panowyk scored 1:35 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Whitby. Matt Eddy assisted on the tally. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 7:06 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts. The Whitby penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled six minors and two majors for 42 minutes in penalty time. The Fury surpassed its season average of 16.0 penalty minutes per game. Whitby's offense rang up 34 shots on the Voyageurs' net. The Fury were held back by their power play unit, which tallied two goals on nine chances. Whitby also got points from Milner, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Steven Deeg, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Spencer MacCormack also scored for Whitby. More assists for Whitby came via Matt Davis, who had two and Jonathan OHara and Taylor Best, who contributed one a piece. Kingston racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with eight minors and two majors for 56 minutes in penalty time. The Voyageurs had been averaging 18.0 minutes in penalties per game. Kingston was helped by Graham Yeo, who finished with one goal. Yeo scored on the power play 3:20 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Whitby. The Voyageurs had gained a power play chance when Sam Gray was whistled for boarding. Brian Nanne picked up the assist. In addition, Kingston received assists from Scott Mossman, who had one and Brandon O Quinn, who had two. Josh Hickey recorded 25 saves for Whitby. For the Fury, Nick Neal and Gray were ejected from the contest. Charlie Finn made 30 saves for Kingston on 34 shots. The Voyageurs registered one goal on five power play opportunities. Team's Joey Seney and Brandon Wolframe were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
