Toronto uses shootout to best Mississauga, 6-5 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Toronto Junior Canadiens defeated the Mississauga Chargers in a shootout 6-5 (2-1 SO).

The two teams needed 10 turns to complete the shootout. Mississauga got a shootout goal from Lucas Venuto. In addition to the clincher, Toronto got a shootout goal from Anthony Repaci.

The Junior Canadiens saw a four-goal lead disappear, but was able to secure the win in a shootout. Toronto made the score 5-1 on a goal by Repaci at 51 seconds in the second period. The Chargers evened things up at 5-5 on a goal by Stefano Alonzi at 17:35 in the third period.

The Junior Canadiens forced Chargers' goalies to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, racking up 53 shots and forcing 47 saves. Alex Lepore made 29 stops and Austin Washkurak made 18. Toronto's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Mississauga power plays. The Junior Canadiens outdid their season average for goals scored. This season, Toronto averages 3.0 goals per contest.

The Junior Canadiens were led by Michael Cuddemi, who tallied three goals. Toronto additionally got points from Aaron Spivak, who also had one goal and one assist and Repaci, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Toronto were Derek Perl, who had one, Dalton APM Hnatko, who had three, and Cody Thompson and Joseph Santino, who each chipped in two.

Mississauga excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. The Chargers forced Toronto goalie Nathan Colitto to work between the pipes, taking 38 shots.

Mississauga was helped by A Valente, who registered two goals. Valente scored the first of his two goals at 7:23 into the third period to make the score 5-3 Toronto. Trevor Warnaar provided the assist. Valente's next tally made the score 5-4 Toronto with 6:56 left in the third period. Warnaar assisted on the tally. Mississauga also got points from Alonzi, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Warnaar, who also finished with one goal and two assists to lead the team in points, and Zackery Landsfield, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. More assists for Mississauga came via Matthew Hore, who had one and A Latina and Venuto, who each chipped in two.

Colitto rejected 33 shots on goal for the Junior Canadiens. Toronto incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Chargers incurred 28 minutes in penalty time with four minors.
