Cobourg holds on for 3-1 win against Aurora

The Aurora Tigers tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the Cobourg Cougars held on for a 3-1 victory.

A goal by Connor Armour put Cobourg up 3-0 in the second period, but Aurora pulled to within two on Jordan Brown's tally 19:38 into the third period.

Taylor Gauld was all over the ice for the Cougars, as he tallied two goals in the win. Gauld scored at 19:37 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Cobourg and again while 4:19 into the second to make the score 2-0 Cobourg.

Cobourg's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Aurora power plays.

More assists for Cobourg came via Cody Mintz, Dylan Goddard, Corey Helliwell, Conor Carson, and Mark MacAulay, who each chipped in one.

The Tigers stifled the Cougars' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Aurora's offense rang up 32 shots on Cobourg's net.

Other players who recorded assists for Aurora were Dylan Sikura and Kory Kennedy, who contributed one a piece.

Nathan Perry recorded 31 saves for the Cougars. Cobourg incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Tigers' Brett Sinclair stopped 17 shots out of the 20 that he faced. Aurora incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. The Tigers ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Robert Angiolella was ejected from the game.
