Whitby beats Stouffville 4-2 after comeback scareIroquois - Rink#1 Thu, Nov 29, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Stouffville Spirit tried their best to erase a three-goal deficit, but the Whitby Fury would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 4-2. Whitby made the score 4-1 on a goal by Spencer MacCormack at 6:15 in the third period, and Stouffville got as close as 4-2 when Nathanael Halbert scored 6:53 into the third period. Sam Gray was all over the ice for the Fury, as he grabbed two goals in the win. Gray found the back of the net on the power play 2:04 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Whitby and again while short handed seven seconds into the second to make the score 2-1 Whitby. Whitby put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Spirit to score on any of their four power plays. Stouffville was unable to stop the Fury from sending pucks towards the net, and Whitby eventually piled up 37 shots on goal. Nick Neal also scored for Whitby. More assists for Whitby came via Sean Deroch and Henry Thompson, who contributed one a piece and Chris Raguseo and Matt Davis, who each chipped in two. The Spirit forced the Fury goalie Tyler Feaver to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots. Stouffville was led by Dylan Savory, who racked up one goal and one assist. Savory scored 15:40 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Peyton Backus picked up the assist. Other players who recorded assists for Stouffville were Jacob Bauchman, who had two. Feaver rejected 29 shots on goal for Whitby. The Fury incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Spirit's Braydon Banitsiotis stopped 33 shots out of the 37 that he faced. Stouffville incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
