The game between the Pickering Panthers and the Newmarket Hurricanes was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Pickering emerged with a 3-2 win. The Panthers gained the winning advantage on a goal by Robert Lepine 18:55 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer. Pickering got the win on the strength of a great game by Carlos Amestoy, who had one goal and two assists. Amestoy scored on the power play 18:30 into the second period to make the score 2-2. The Panthers had gained a power play chance when Austin Rigney was whistled for high sticking. Cody Doiron provided the assist. Pickering was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 20 penalty minutes. Pickering also got a goal from Derek Sheppard as well. Other players who recorded assists for Pickering were Josh Herrington, Andrew McCann, and Matt Galati, who each chipped in one. The Panthers were unable to stop Newmarket from sending pucks towards the net, and the Hurricanes eventually piled up 38 shots on goal. Newmarket was helped by Brandon Francisco, who registered one goal. Francisco scored on the power play 1:19 into the second period to make the score 1-1. The Hurricanes had gotten the advantage when Pickering's Aidan Wallace was sent off for slashing. Daniel Leavens assisted on the tally. Chris Chiste also scored for Newmarket. More assists for Newmarket came via Kyler Nixon, who had two. Conor Barrie rejected 36 shots on goal for the Panthers. Pickering registered two goals on -1 power play opportunities. Lucas Peressini recorded 19 saves for Newmarket. The Hurricanes incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
