GAME RECAP

Finn leads Kingston to shutout victory over Pickering

Pickering Recreation Complex    Fri, Sep 21, 2012

The Kingston Voyageurs used a sparkling performance by Charlie Finn to take down the Pickering Panthers, as the netminder did not allow a goal in Kingston's 4-0 shutout victory.

Pickering's power play was ineffective against the Voyageurs' penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

Kingston stifled the Panthers' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Voyageurs' defensive effort looked to be improved. Kingston gives up 2.9 goals on average per game. Pickering was unable to stop the Voyageurs from sending pucks towards the net, and Kingston eventually piled up 47 shots on goal. The Voyageurs found themselves short handed often, totaling 20 penalty minutes and allowing seven power plays.

Kingston was led by Michael Schug, who finished with one goal and one assist. Schug scored 8:10 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Kingston. Kingston also got a goal from Graham Yeo as well. In addition, Kingston received assists from Francesco Vilardi, who had two and Chad Duchesne, Josh Hicks, and Kris Grant, who contributed one a piece.

The Panthers did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Pickering averages 3.2 goals per game. The Panthers forced the Voyageurs goalie Finn to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots. Pickering could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 25 minutes in penalties during the game.

Finn rejected 36 shots on goal for Kingston. The Voyageurs registered two goals on eight power play opportunities. The Panthers' Spencer Bacon stopped 43 shots out of the 47 that he faced. For Pickering, Cory Lauer and Jeff Heard were ejected from the contest.
