Hamilton vanquishes Orangeville in shootout, 5-4 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Hamilton Red Wings defeated the Orangeville Flyers in a shootout 5-4 (1-0 SO).

The shootout featured five attempts between both teams.

Hamilton came back from a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Red Wings was down 4-3 after a goal by Orangeville's Kelby Lorenz at 43 seconds in the third period. Hamilton knotted things up at 4-4 on a power play goal by Luke Laidlaw at 8:05 in the third period.

The Red Wings pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 19 penalty minutes.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 18:38 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Hamilton was led by Dylan Hutton, who racked up one goal and one assist. Hutton scored 17:49 into the second period to make the score 3-3. Laidlaw assisted on the tally. Hamilton also got points from Laidlaw, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Hamilton also got a goal from Jordan Merante as well. Other players who recorded assists for Hamilton were Spencer Hyman, Oliver Hyman, Troy Crema, Chris Micallef, Harrison Luce, and Nick Scamurra, who contributed one a piece.

The Flyers were often in penalty trouble, totaling seven minors and one major for 19 minutes in penalty time. Orangeville surpassed its season average of 16.0 penalty minutes per game. The Flyers' offense rang up 38 shots on the Red Wings' net.

Orangeville was led by Joshua Decosta, who had one goal and one assist. Decosta scored on the power play 4:48 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Orangeville. A high sticking penalty on Micallef had put the Flyers on the power play. Geoffrey Bagnall provided the assist. Orangeville additionally got points from Lorenz, who also registered one goal and one assist. Blake Forslund also scored for Orangeville. In addition, Orangeville received assists from Thomas Tsicos, who had two and Brandon Gaudette and John Doyle, who each chipped in one.

Allen Avery recorded 34 saves for Hamilton. The Red Wings registered one goal on seven power play opportunities. Hamilton ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Luce was ejected from the game. Taylor Welsh made 25 saves for Orangeville on 29 shots. The Flyers registered one goal on seven power play opportunities. Team's Jayme Forslund and Doyle were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
