Newmarket beats Lindsay 5-4 after comeback scare

The Lindsay Muskies tried their best to erase a three-goal deficit, but the Newmarket Hurricanes would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 5-4.

Newmarket took a 5-2 lead during the second period, only to have Lindsay storm back on a Vince Herlihey goal 7:55 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

The Hurricanes got the win behind a great game by Brandon Francisco, who had two goals and one assist. Francisco scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 4:37 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Newmarket had gained a power play chance when Louis-David Bourgault was whistled for interference. Daniel Leavens assisted on the tally. Francisco's next tally on the power play made the score 3-1 Newmarket with 3:54 left in the first period.

The Hurricanes' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Lindsay power plays.

Newmarket also got points from Leavens, who also registered one goal and one assist. Newmarket also got a goal from Jordan Dunin as well. More assists for Newmarket came via Chris Chiste, Jeff Murray, Justin Maiolino, Kyler Nixon, Ian Farrell, and Thomas Beretta, who contributed one a piece.

Newmarket was unable to stop the Muskies from sending pucks towards the net, and Lindsay eventually piled up 37 shots on goal.

The Muskies were helped by Jake Taylor, who finished with one goal. Taylor scored 18:51 into the first period to make the score 3-2 Newmarket. Herlihey picked up the assist. Lindsay additionally got points from Herlihey, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Patrick Thornton also scored for Lindsay. Other players who recorded assists for Lindsay were Dylan Fitze, Matt McCartney, Felix Chamberland, Terry Snoddon, and Corey Jackson, who each chipped in one.

Matthew Wintjes recorded 33 saves for the Hurricanes. Newmarket incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Tanner Davis rejected 25 shots on goal for Lindsay. The Muskies incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
