Whitby survives Lindsay comeback, wins 5-4

The Whitby Fury survived a determined comeback attempt by the Lindsay Muskies on the way to a 5-4 win.

Whitby made the score 4-0 on a goal by Sean Deroch at 14:05 in the second period, and Lindsay got as close as 5-4 when Vince Herlihey scored 19:17 into the third period.

Jack Lewis had a great game for the Fury, netting two goals. Lewis found the back of the net 9:27 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Whitby and again while on the power play 12:27 into the second to make the score 3-0 Whitby.

Whitby kept the Muskies' goalie busy throughout the game, and Tanner Davis made 30 saves on 35 shots.

Whitby also got points from Matt Eddy, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Greg Milner also scored for Whitby. More assists for Whitby came via Connor Laird and Taylor Best, who contributed one a piece and Kevin Stevens, Matt Davis, and Steven Deeg, who each chipped in two.

The Fury were unable to stop Lindsay from sending pucks towards the net, and the Muskies eventually piled up 33 shots on goal. Lindsay found itself short handed often, totaling 24 penalty minutes and allowing six power plays.

The Muskies were led by Felix Chamberland, who racked up two goals. Chamberland scored the first of his two goals at 4:54 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Whitby. Matt McCartney picked up the assist. Chamberland's next tally made the score 5-3 Whitby with 4:11 left in the third period. Lindsay had gained a power play chance when Stevens was whistled for interference. McCartney assisted on the tally. Lindsay also got a goal from Dean Klomp as well. In addition, Lindsay received assists from Cole Murduff, Zack MacArthur, Patrick Thornton, Louis-David Bourgault, Jake Taylor, and Brian Hubers, who contributed one a piece.

Tyler Feaver made 29 saves for Whitby on 33 shots. The Fury incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Muskies registered one goal on four power play opportunities.
