Toronto Lakeshore survives Burlington comeback, wins 4-2

The Burlington Cougars tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the Toronto Lakeshore Patriots held on for a 4-2 victory.

A goal by Doug Bonar put Toronto Lakeshore up 4-1 in the third period, but Burlington pulled to within two on Steven Mueller's tally 19:47 into the third period.

Daniel Tedesco had two goals to lead the Patriots to victory. Tedesco scored on the power play at 16:34 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Toronto Lakeshore and again while 8:22 into the third to make the score 3-1 Toronto Lakeshore.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 16:48 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with three game misconducts.

Toronto Lakeshore racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 11 minors and two majors for 32 minutes in penalty time. The Patriots had been averaging 15.0 minutes in penalties per game. Toronto Lakeshore kept the Cougars' goalie busy throughout the game, and Alex Murray made 42 saves on 46 shots. The Patriots were ineffective while on the power play, as they were held to two goals off of nine man advantages.

Angelpooulos Peter also scored for Toronto Lakeshore. More assists for Toronto Lakeshore came via Alex D Oliveira, who had three and Niko Kovachis, Luke Carter, Kyle Dutra, Brandon Willett, and William Seligman, who each chipped in one.

Burlington was often in penalty trouble, totaling 11 minors and one major for 47 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 25.0 minutes per game the Cougars had been spending in the box.

Burlington was helped by Brett Coulson, who grabbed one goal. Coulson scored 4:40 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Toronto Lakeshore. Joe Sullivan provided the assist. In addition, Burlington received assists from Gavin Shantz, Daniel Campbell, and Mark Rodgers, who contributed one a piece.

Stormer Santana rejected 28 shots on goal for Toronto Lakeshore. The Patriots ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Brody Heleno was ejected from the game. The Cougars registered one goal on six power play opportunities. For Burlington, Jack OHara was ejected from the game.
