Cobourg stifles Pickering's comeback, gains 4-2 victoryPickering Recreation Complex Fri, Nov 16, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Cobourg Cougars came close to giving away a three-goal lead to the Pickering Panthers, but did just enough to escape with a 4-2 victory. Cobourg led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Cougars' Mark MacAulay's scored at 6:16 in the second period to put Cobourg up 3-0. MacAulay had a great game for the Cougars, netting two goals. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 18:52 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts. Cobourg put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Pickering to score on any of its five power plays. Cobourg also got a goal from Cody Mintz as well. Other players who recorded assists for Cobourg were Colbie Andrews, who had two and Matt Martin, Dylan Goddard, Mitchell Burghardt, Evan Jasper, and Kenzie Smith, who each chipped in one. The Panthers stifled the Cougars' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Pickering was helped by Brodie Tutton, who tallied one goal. Tutton scored 11:33 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Cobourg. Jeff Heard provided the assist. Sean Levac also scored for Pickering. In addition, Pickering received assists from Michael Montford, Robert Lepine, and Carlos Amestoy, who contributed one a piece. Nathan Perry made 28 saves for Cobourg on 30 shots. The Cougars totaled 25 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 0-for-3 on the power play. For Cobourg, Martin was ejected from the game. CJ Sharp rejected 22 shots on goal for the Panthers. Pickering ended with 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major. The Panthers ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Lepine was ejected from the game.
