Minello leads Trenton over Pickering, 8-2

The Trenton Golden Hawks' Jordan Minello had a big offensive game, scoring two goals and contributing three assists in his team's 8-2 win over the Pickering Panthers.

Minello found the back of the net 58 seconds into the second period to make the score 2-1 Trenton and again while 18:09 into the second to make the score 6-1 Trenton.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 5:06 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Trenton forced Panthers' netminders to work between the pipes, racking up 39 shots and forcing 31 saves. CJ Sharp made 11 stops and Spencer Bacon made 20. The Golden Hawks surpassed their usual scoring output this season. This season, Trenton averages 3.4 goals per contest. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

Trenton also got points from Erlich Doerksen, who also had one goal and one assist and Loren Ulett, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Nolan Martin also scored for Trenton. Other players who recorded assists for Trenton were Josh Timpano, who had two, Truman Landowski, who had three, and Alex Leader, Robbie Hall, and Brandon Scott, who each chipped in one.

The Pickering penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled seven minors and two majors for 24 minutes in penalty time. The Panthers surpassed its season average of 20.0 penalty minutes per game.

Pickering was led by Joseph Benvenuto, who tallied one goal and one assist. Benvenuto scored on the power play 1:40 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Pickering. A delay of game penalty on Michael Walker had put the Panthers on the power play. Derek Sheppard provided the assist. Pickering also got a goal from Brodie Tutton as well. More assists for Pickering came via Carlos Amestoy and Jeff Heard, who contributed one a piece.

Andrew Winsor made 20 saves for the Golden Hawks on 22 shots. Trenton totaled 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major and went 2-for-6 on the power play. The Golden Hawks ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Shawn Hulshof was ejected from the game. Pickering registered one goal on four power play opportunities. Team's Sheppard and Micah Nichols were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
