Cobourg vanquishes Aurora in shootout, 3-2 (2-0 SO)Aurora Community Centre Sat, Nov 10, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Cobourg Cougars defeated the Aurora Tigers in a shootout 3-2 (2-0 SO). The shootout lasted for four attempts between the teams. Cobourg also got a shootout goal from Dylan Goddard.The Cougars came back from a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Cobourg was down 2-1 after a goal by Aurora's Robert Angiolella at 18:36 in the second period. The Cougars knotted things up at 2-2 on a short handed goal by Evan Jasper at 1:18 in the third period. Jasper had a great game for Cobourg, netting two goals. The Cougars kept the Tigers' goalie busy throughout the game, and Brett Sinclair made 37 saves on 40 shots. Cobourg's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Cougars finished with 18 penalty minutes. Other players who recorded assists for Cobourg were Corey Helliwell, who had two and Goddard and Colbie Andrews, who contributed one a piece. Cobourg was unable to stop Aurora from sending pucks towards the net, and the Tigers eventually piled up 46 shots on goal. Aurora additionally got points from Kory Kennedy, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. In addition, Aurora received assists from Tyler Shaw, Jordan Brown, and Daniel Clairmont, who each chipped in one. Nathan Perry made 44 saves for the Cougars on 46 shots. Cobourg registered one goal on three power play opportunities. For the Cougars, Mark MacAulay was ejected from the game. Aurora incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
