GAME RECAP

Whitby beats Trenton 2-1 after comeback scare

Duncan Memorial    Fri, Nov 09, 2012

The Whitby Fury survived a determined comeback attempt by the Trenton Golden Hawks on the way to a 2-1 win.

A goal by Marco Azzano put Whitby up 2-0 in the third period, but Trenton pulled to within one on Nick Marinac's tally 13:48 into the third period.

The Fury's Tyler Feaver was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 28 saves and let only one puck past him. The solid play of Feaver will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 2.4.

Whitby's penalty kill excelled, as the Fury gave up zero goals despite allowing six power plays.

Whitby forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up seven minors and one major for 19 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 16.0 minutes per game the Fury had been spending in the box. Whitby stifled the Golden Hawks' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Whitby also got a goal from Chris Raguseo as well. Other players who recorded assists for Whitby were Nick Neal and Spencer MacCormack, who each chipped in one.

Trenton did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Golden Hawks put an average of 3.5 pucks into the net per game.

More assists for Trenton came via Michael Walker and Alex Leader, who contributed one a piece.

The Fury registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. Whitby ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Tyler Park was ejected from the game. Victor Adamo rejected 13 shots on goal for Trenton. The Golden Hawks ended with 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major. For Trenton, Loren Ulett was ejected from the game.
