Milton wins tough contest against Orangeville, 3-2Milton Memorial Arena Fri, Nov 09, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Milton Icehawks escaped with a 3-2 victory over the Orangeville Flyers. Neither team gained more than a one-goal lead, and Shane Bennett's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker. Bennett was all over the ice for Milton, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Bennett scored the first of his two goals at 5:36 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Michael Capicotto provided the assist. Bennett's next tally made the score 3-2 Milton with 6:38 left in the third period. The Icehawks had taken the advantage when Orangeville's Mathew Thompson got sent off for cross checking. Austin Kosack picked up the assist. Milton managed to stay out of the box better than usual, tallying one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Icehawks finished below its season average of 20.0 penalty minutes per game. Milton forced the Flyers goalie Taylor Welsh to work between the pipes, taking 38 shots. Daniel Holt also scored for Milton. More assists for Milton came via Rocky Furfari and Justin Devincentis, who contributed one a piece. Orangeville kept the Icehawks' goalie busy throughout the game, and Braden Mann made 41 saves on 43 shots. The Flyers were helped by Thomas Tsicos, who tallied one goal. Tsicos scored 10:39 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Orangeville. Keegan Ackerland provided the assist. Orangeville also got a goal from Kelby Lorenz as well. In addition, Orangeville received assists from Kyle Wood, Bryer Lorenz, and Brandon Gaudette, who each chipped in one. Milton registered one goal on two power play opportunities. Welsh rejected 35 shots on goal for Orangeville. The Flyers incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors and had no power play opportunities.
