Pickering downs Stouffville in overtime, 5-4 (OT)

The Pickering Panthers pulled out a 5-4 (OT) overtime victory over the Stouffville Spirit on a clutch goal by Matt Galati.

Galati was all over the ice for Pickering, as he tallied two goals and two assists in the win. Galati scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 7:35 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Pickering. A hooking penalty on Michael Morgan had put the Panthers on the power play. Andrew McCann provided the assist. Galati's next tally on the power play made the score 5-4 Pickering with 16:59 left in overtime. McCann assisted on the tally.

Pickering pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 14 penalty minutes.

The Panthers forced Stouffville goalie Knick Dawe to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots.

Pickering also got points from McCann, who also tallied one goal and four assists and Cody Doiron, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Pickering also got a goal from Carlos Amestoy as well. Other players who recorded assists for Pickering were Robert Lepine, who had one.

The Spirit kept Pickering's goalie busy throughout the game, and CJ Sharp made 30 saves on 34 shots.

Stouffville was helped by Alex Botten, who grabbed two goals. Botten scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 17:10 into the first period to make the score 1-1. The Spirit had gotten the advantage when the Panthers' Joseph Benvenuto was sent off for roughing. Dylan Savory picked up the assist. Botten's next tally on the power play made the score 2-1 Stouffville with 18:40 left in the second period. Joseph Deveny assisted on the tally. Stouffville additionally got points from Morgan, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Peyton Backus also scored for Stouffville. More assists for Stouffville came via Robert Powers, who had three and Sean Power and Matthew Heffernan, who contributed one a piece.

Pickering registered one goal on three power play opportunities. Stouffville's Dawe stopped 28 shots out of the 33 that he faced. The Spirit incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Stouffville ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Josh Carrick was ejected from the game.
